Mountain biking
The nineteen charming Tyrolean towns around the legendary town of Kitzbühel are a hit all year round. In summer they make 800 kilometers of bike and mountain bike routes. Every year there are international cycling highlights around the famous Kitzbüheler Horn and the mountains around:
June: KitzAlpBike Festival (5 day event) - Kirchberg-Brixen-Westendorf and Kitzbühel.
July: Austria cycle tour - stage destination Kitzbüheler Horn.
August: UCI Cycling Masters and Cycling World Cup (world's largest cycling event with 46 nations) - St. Johann in Tirol.
Cycle around the Wilder Kaiser through the extensive Brixental, on to St. Johann in Tirol and in the Hohe Salve holiday region.
A special feature of the Brixental are the natural side valleys, which are ideal for easy bike tours with normal bicycles. The paths provide also some shadow.
There is an opportunity to stop at the valley ends. These tours are also highly recommended for families with children, as the streams in the back of the valleys offer plenty of material for adventure and discovery trips.
The network of cycle paths is almost endless. You can also get to Salzburg on the bike paths. One of these wonderful tours starts from Brixen im Thale via Kirchberg to Kitzbühel and then via the Römerweg to St. Johann.
From there you have the option of circling the Hohe Salve via Going, Ellmau, Scheffau, Itter and via Hopfgarten back to the Brixental or cycling further to the idyllic Pillersee or to Salzburg. If you just want to get up quickly and conquer the mountains downhill, you can take the gondola lift to the summit.
Most railways in the region offer the service for bikers.
